The day before yesterday I received a very long, well thought-out and in depth critique on my work, which really helped me to see where my strengths and weaknesses are in my artwork. I am really grateful that somebody took the time to help me that much, and to really put so much effort into analysing some of my stuff!
A few years ago, I went to college to study art, but due to a mixture of severe anxiety, depression,illness, my grandmother being in hospital, and me being a stupid, arrogant 16 year old convinced I knew best, I didn't pass. it's something that has always played on my mind and something I have always regretted.
When I was in hospital, even though it was only kidney stones and nothing serious, it dawned on me how quickly things can change. You can go from being fine to being in A&E over the course of half an hour, and that you have to take every chance you can get whilst you have the opportunity.
I want to make something out of myself and my art, and to do that I need to be pushed. I need to step out of my comfort zones, try new mediums, new genres, new concepts - so I have decided, I think Its time I went back to college.
I genuinely believe I have it in me to pass this time - I'm no longer afraid of trying new things, of expanding my horizons and really knuckling down. But I need the kick up the arse and the critique that college provides -
So hopefully this year I'm going to try and get into a local college to try art. I am nervous but I am determined to do my absolute best and unleash my full potential! I hope to always be improving my art until the day I die, and I'm hoping this will really give me the direction I need!
